NGC 3311是一个超巨大[2]椭圆星系[3]（cD型星系），位于长蛇座[4]，距离地球约1亿9000万光年[5]。
天文学家约翰·赫歇尔于1835年3月30日发现NGC 3311[6][7]。NGC 3311是长蛇座星系团中最亮的成员[8][9]，与NGC 3309成一对占据了长蛇座星系团的中心区域[10]。
NGC 3311周围环绕着一个丰富而广阔的球状星团系统[11]，可与室女座星系团中M87相媲美[12]。
NGC 3311有一个弱无线电源，6公分总通量密度为0.3扬斯基[11][13]。
